The Best Of TNW 2 ReviewThe second installment of the TNW Best Of DVD series is better than the original but is it the greatest DVD in all of Backyard Wrestling? That is best left to the fans out there but this review will help you better understand just exactly what this DVD is all about. This review is broken up into parts. The first part will discuss the main disc while the second part will discuss the hidden bonus disc. The final parts of this review will state the pros, cons and the final verdict on the Best of TNW 2 Bigger, Longer & Harder.
The Main Disc:The Main Disc is broken up into three parts: Matches, Music Videos and “Backstage Antics.” The matches include the classic Alan vs. Masked Maniac match from Terminal Velocity 2006, Devilsigh vs. Cateclysm Thumbtack Match from Hotter Than Hell 2006 and the Catastrophe vs. Masked Maniac Match from Youtube. The matches are great but the two Masked Maniac matches were already seen by TNW fans. The gem in this part is the Thumbtack Match where Devilsigh and Cateclysm took each other to hell and back. This match isn’t for the squeamish because there was a lot of blood loss in it.
The Music Videos are a testament to the amazing editing skills of TNW’s Production Department. The songs are great but the actual production of the videos stands out. The videos you fans have to keep an eye on are the “Becoming Cold” and “Embrace The Ending” videos. These videos showcase the skills of TNW’s top editor, “The Mental Maniac” Psycho. There are two special hidden matches that are located at the end of two of the four music videos. You fans will just have to watch them in order to uncover them.
The “Backstage Antics” part is quite frankly, a backstage antic in its own right. After clicking on it, fans will be thrown through a loop at the strangeness of it all. The part is nothing but a blank screen and a rather long musical score. Once I clicked on it, I quickly started fast forwarding until the picture returned. When it did, I was brought back to the first menu. I went back and adjusted my television only to discover my reflection on the screen. It turns out that the section was intentionally left blank in order to get a rise out of to the fans. The actual Backstage Antics section was moved to the Hidden Bonus Disc.
The Bonus Disc:After opening the package, I discovered the Bonus Disc as it flew out of it. After I realized just exactly what the hell it was, I popped it into my player. The first thing that you fans will notice about the Bonus Disc is its opening as it is a grim reminder that Gravedigger is returning at Ressurection to reclaim his yard.
The Bonus Disc is broken up into four parts. The four parts include three hilarious Psycho Skits and the elusive Backstage Antics section. The “Gas Station” and “Friends” skits are short but hilarious Psycho skits. Psycho tries to find a bathroom in a gas station in the first one and in the “Friends” skit, he gets kicked in the crotch by one of the women he sort of tried to buy off, ha ha.
But the funniest skit, and longest, is the “Babysitter” skit. This skit is something that will make every single TNW fan laugh hysterically. In it, Alan decides to go out clubbing and he hires a babysitter to watch over Psycho for the night. Alan hires his good buddy and friendly neighborhood spine crusher Cateclysm. One thing is for certain in this skit and that’s Cateclysm is a very unorthodox babysitter. Psycho kept waking up throughout all hours of the night, making Cateclysm experience just exactly how it’s like to spend a night with Psycho. As you can guess from previous skits, Psycho isn’t exactly the quite type as he is too hyperactive to even babysit. This skit left me in stitches and it should do the same for you fans as well.
The Backstage Antics section is the longest section in the DVD package. It clocks in about 20 minutes of hilarious actions that takes you into the very essence of TNW. This section allows the fans to see just exactly what it’s like to be with the TNW Roster when they are not battling it out in the ring. Some of the antics include: Devilsigh pulling off a bad yet funny impression of Psycho, Psycho pulling off a stellar impersonation of Beavis’ Cornholio, TNW raiding a Chuckie Cheese and Wal-mart, and Psycho showing off his mock karate gear. The mock karate gear that Psycho was sporting was enough to make anybody burst out laughing. The only problem was what he was wearing around his pelvic region. The camera, during that segment, kept focusing on Psycho’s foam covering. There was only a few inches of foam rubber that was protecting the TNW Audience from the Full Psycho, ha ha.
The Pros and Cons:This DVD package was a greatly made DVD package. The music videos and menu systems were incredibly done and it just goes to show you just how far along TNW’s Production Department came from the first Best Of. The Bonus Disc had hilarious Psycho Skits and the Backstage Antics offered just another glimpse into the real life environment of TNW.
However, fans may seem a little disappointed when it comes to the Main Disc. The Main Disc only has about three matches in the Matches section and two hidden ones in the Music Videos section. The three matches that made it into the Matches section sort of came off as déjà vu. There were, in my opinion, better matches that could of made it into that section. The only match that fans haven’t already seen was the Thumbtack Match but is that really enough? Fans may have wanted to see other matches make the cut. The one I wanted to see was Climax vs. Alan from Hotter Than Hell 2006 but the section didn’t feature Climax at all, even if he is on the menu.
The Verdict:This DVD is an impressive DVD package because it was well made and it had some great parts to it. The matches section was kind of a let down but all and all, this DVD is a great purchase for any TNW Fan. I’m giving The Best Of TNW 2 Bigger, Longer & Harder a B+/A- because it was great but there could have been a little more put into it. But that just leaves the door open for the Third Installment.
